The Crypto Gibraltar Festival 2022 takes place from 22nd to 24th September and will bring together the crypto business world and the new world of the metaverse.
Pete Burgess, the organiser of the festival says:
“Gibraltar’s foundation as a financial jurisdiction is regulation – often seen as old world – but Gibraltar is also an enabler and hotbed of cutting edge innovation, particularly in the payments sector.
He continues:
“In a sense, Gibraltar is a microcosm of the DeFi / CeFi debate. It introduced the very first DLT regulatory framework which has attracted many of the world’s biggest crypto operators such as Bitso, eToroX and LMAX Digital, and yet many crypto purists will say that this regulation encourages centralisation – the very opposite of the original crypto philosophy. That “tension” is what produces great debates and stage content at the Crypto Gibraltar Festival.”
This year the festival is due to attract over 1,000 people and will be based in a specially created “Crypto Village” next to Gibraltar airport. It will feature a 700 seat theatre, an exhibition area, an NFT gallery and a networking lounge.
“The main reason people attend conferences is to connect. Many people go to conferences and never set eyes on a stage,” says Burgess. “Crypto Gibraltar is primarily a networking event and is structured to facilitate that. We have two half-days of serious conference sessions, but we also have a purpose-built networking lounge and we create enough time periods during the day to make productive use of it.”
Crypto Gibraltar also makes sure that delegates enjoy their evenings as well. At the 2021 event the Friday party was held in a cave inside the rock of Gibraltar with a light and sound show replicating the formation of the rock. This year they are going to continue the theme of bringing different worlds together, but in this case it’s the real world and the metaverse.
“We’re going to create an immersive metaverse experience where we will stream DJs performing in a metaverse club but into the real world,” says Burgess. “We’re working with DJenerates – the premiere NFT collection celebrating Electronic Music and featuring world class DJs & artists from the TOP 100 DJ list – and to finish we’re also going to have Hipworth – the founder of this business who incidentally is also an NFT artist – he’s going to play live.”
The experience will allow attendees to experience both worlds at the same time, with musicians on the screen and access to the metaverse via mobile. Those who are there on the night can interact with people in the metaverse but also see them in the real world and connect with them. “We think this will be a world first” Burgess concludes.
Crypto Gibraltar is a must-attend event for anyone serious about the business of crypto.
