👉 Damian Straszak: Blockchain Privacy: Mitigating Potential Misuse
Core researcher and developer of Aleph Zero and one of the authors of AlephBFT, Aleph Zero’s peer-reviewed consensus protocol.

Improving users privacy is one of the most important goals of research and development in blockchain technology. In this context a significant challenge has arisen: private systems may appeal to malevolent actors, given their potential to obfuscate the origins of funds. In this talk, I will delve into this issue and explore possible resolutions – developing designs for private systems that retain their permissionless nature, while simultaneously discouraging misuse by malicious actors.

What you can expect?: I will talk about the issues of private blockchain systems, and how to deal with them; the talk should be easy to understand for everyone, in particular, I will not be touching on the technical details of zk-SNARKs (happy to discuss after, though).

BIO:
Damian Straszak obtained a double major Master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Wrocław. Defended his Ph.D. thesis in Computer Science at École Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2019, receiving a special distinction from the selection committee. The main topics in his research are Discrete Optimization problems and Convex Programming. For more than 15 years Damian has been active in the Competitive Programming scene. In 2013 and 2014 advanced to ACM ICPC World Finals — the World’s most prestigious programming competition — first as a participant and then as a team coach. Involved in the organization of several large programming competitions.
