CryptoMondays London — Stablecoins Grow Up: From Crypto Rails to Real-World Money

CryptoMondays London

CryptoMondays London returns on October 19 to explore real-world adoption, payments and cross-border use cases, the evolving UK regulatory landscape, and what comes next — including whether stablecoins could provide the payment rails for an increasingly AI-driven economy.

Stablecoins have been part of crypto for years.

But increasingly, the interesting question isn’t what they are — it’s what happens next.

Once primarily used to move money around crypto markets, stablecoins are increasingly becoming infrastructure for payments, cross-border transfers and the growing intersection between traditional finance and digital assets.

So are stablecoins finally moving beyond crypto? Could they become part of how we pay and move money every day? And as fintechs, payment companies and governments take them more seriously, what still stands in the way?

We’ll explore real-world adoption, payments and cross-border use cases, the evolving UK regulatory landscape, and what comes next — including whether stablecoins could provide the payment rails for an increasingly AI-driven economy.

Panellists

Reuben Blamey is Co-Founder and COO of Agant, a pound sterling stablecoin issuer based in the UK. An early adopter of digital assets and DeFi, he has been in the space since 2017. Spending 7 years trading and operating in DeFi, he saw the need for a stablecoin in his native currency, and so joined with Agant’s other founders to create GBPA.

Juan Ignacio Ibanez is the Executive Director of the MiCA Crypto Alliance. His work focuses on high-impact regulatory research, with a focus on cryptocurrency disclosures in Europe. He also holds roles at the University College London Centre for Blockchain Technologies, the Catholic University of Argentina, the UK Centre for Blockchain Technologies and Exponential Science Foundation.

Paul Faecks is founder and CEO at Plasma, a Layer 1 blockchain built for stablecoin payments. Paul previously co-founded Alloy, an institutional digital asset platform and worked at Deribit.

Moderator Helen Disney is a globally-recognised blockchain advocate and the Founder of Unblocked, an events, PR and marketing agency which helps technology companies scale faster through effective storytelling and connections. Unblocked supports established businesses and new market entrants to explain their vision in a way that connects with both a technical and a non-technical audience.

Over the past decade, Unblocked has worked with some of the leading frontier technology, blockchain and cryptocurrency companies in the market today and helped take their businesses to the next level. In 2025, Helen also founded Stablecoins Unblocked, an annual conference based in London, dedicated to discussing stablecoins and their impact on the global stage.
