Panelists
Erica Stanford is a crypto, digital assets, stablecoins and AI specialist at international law firm CMS, where she advises in a non-legal capacity on cryptoasset risk, regulation, fraud, scams, digital crime and AI-enabled financial crime. She is the bestselling, award-winning author of Crypto Wars: Faked Deaths, Missing Billions and Industry Disruption, which has been translated into 15 languages, and author of the forthcoming textbook Stablecoins: Law, Regulation and Technology, to be released in late 2020 by Edward Elgar . Erica writes and speaks internationally on crypto, stablecoins, digital-asset crime, fraud, emerging financial-crime risks and the role of AI in digital finance.
Charlotte Miller is the Deputy MLRO at Zodia Custody, bringing over 10 years’ experience in AML and Financial Crime. Their career spans TradFi, working across all three lines of defence, before a personal fascination with crypto led them to make the move into digital assets around 15 months ago. Drawn by the idea of a new form of money that couldn’t simply be held, and one where a token’s story can often be told (traced), unlike a £20 note whose history is lost the moment it changes hands. At the same time, hearing that criminals were turning to this new form of money made them want to see, first hand, whether that was actually true.
Since then, Charlotte has focused on bringing that breadth of TradFi experience to the crypto industry, helping build robust practical AML frameworks that keep pace with an evolving regulatory landscape. Charlotte is passionate about bridging the gap between traditional finance and crypto and is looking forward to sharing these insights on the panel.
Moderated by Wasim Ahmad. Wasim has spent decades at the exact point where deep, difficult technology meets everyday people. His crypto journey began with AlphaPoint, working with the founding team that launched some of the world’s first cryptocurrency trading exchanges. He then joined Vault12, the pioneer of crypto inheritance, where the mathematics of Adi Shamir’s Secret Sharing — became a product that lets people pass their digital assets safely to the ones they love. Most recently, he has been lobbying hard in both the United States and the United Kingdom — engaging with the SEC, CFTC and the FCA — to evolve the laws and regulations governing crypto, so that everyday people can access these technologies safely and confidently. He is now the author of a book on everyday cryptography: “Who holds the key?”, an everyday guide to cryptography, passwords, crypto wallets, and navigating the technology that protects your privacy in the modern world.
