Blockchain.com, NYSE Move Toward 24/7 Tokenized U.S. Stock Trading

Blockchain.com, NYSE

Blockchain.com and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) are exploring a partnership that could give millions of crypto users access to tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs around the clock.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday covering the distribution of tokenized U.S. exchange-listed equities and exchange-traded funds through the NYSE’s planned digital alternative trading system, or ATS. The proposed service remains subject to regulatory approvals and the launch of the NYSE platform.

If launched, the integration would connect Blockchain.com’s global user base to a NYSE-operated venue designed for 24/7 trading and onchain settlement. NYSE’s parent, Intercontinental Exchange, first announced the digital platform in January, saying it would support fractional shares, dollar-denominated orders, stablecoin funding and immediate settlement.

The agreement comes less than a week after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) introduced a temporary framework aimed at facilitating certain forms of onchain stock trading.

The platform is intended to support both tokenized versions of traditionally issued securities and securities issued natively as digital assets. NYSE said tokenized shares would retain the economic and governance rights associated with the underlying securities.

“Connecting to the NYSE digital ATS will enable us to extend the opportunity to invest in these digital assets to tens of millions of Blockchain.com users around the world,” Blockchain.com CEO and co-founder Peter Smith said in the announcement.

According to NYSE Group President Lynn Martin, Blockchain.com’s international reach and experience in digital assets could help distribute tokenized securities once the platform is operational.

A two-way bridge between stocks and crypto data

The agreement goes beyond tokenized equities.

ICE Data Services, a division of NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange, will distribute Blockchain.com’s crypto market data and analytics to its customers. Blockchain.com, meanwhile, plans to incorporate selected ICE and NYSE market data feeds into its application, with part of it available through June, Blockchain.com’s artificial intelligence assistant focused on crypto.

The planned NYSE integration would expand on Blockchain.com’s existing tokenized-equity offering.

The company already provides eligible users outside the U.S. with access to tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs through its partnership with Ondo Finance. That service has expanded across Europe and other international markets, giving Blockchain.com users access to hundreds of tokenized products.

The NYSE arrangement would be different in that the underlying distribution would be connected directly to the exchange’s planned digital ATS rather than relying solely on Blockchain.com’s existing tokenized-asset infrastructure.
