Algorand Foundation Re-establishes U.S. Headquarters, Appoints New Board of Directors

Algorand Foundation Re-establishes U.S. Headquarters

The Algorand Foundation announced it is re-establishing its U.S. headquarters in Delaware and has appointed a new board of directors to oversee its strategy and operations. The move marks a return to the United States for the organization, which originated from research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The newly formed board will be chaired by Bill Barhydt, the Founder and CEO of Abra. Other members include Alex Holmes, Executive Vice Chairman of United Texas Bank and former CEO of MoneyGram; Michael Mosier, Co-Founder of Arktouros PLLC and former Acting Director of the U.S. Treasury’s FinCEN; Rebecca Rettig, Chief Legal Officer of Jito Labs; and Staci Warden, CEO of the Algorand Foundation.

The board’s stated mandate is to guide the Foundation’s expanded U.S. operations and focus on initiatives in global payments, asset tokenization, and financial services.

“I’m honored and excited to join the Algorand Foundation’s board of directors,” said Bill Barhydt. “As the world of finance moves 100% on-chain, institutions, developers and users will demand blockchain and smart contract platforms that are secure, fast, scalable and easily programmable. Algorand checks all these boxes… I look forward to contributing to its success.”

The Foundation cited existing projects on the Algorand network as examples of its technology’s application, including Lofty for real estate investment, HesabPay for cross-border payments, Folks Finance for on-chain debt products, and Conio for asset tokenization.

“Algorand has always stood for empowering people with blockchain technology,” said Staci Warden, CEO of the Algorand Foundation. “Now we’re doubling down where blockchain can make the most significant difference… By re-establishing our presence in the U.S., Algorand is helping ensure U.S. leadership for the next generation of financial infrastructure.”

Additionally, the Foundation announced plans to form an Ecosystem Advisory Council to provide a channel for community members and ecosystem projects to contribute to its strategic direction. The council will be chaired by Paweł (Urtho) Pierścionek, founder of Nodely, who will also serve as a technical advisor to the board.
