Calling all academics, researchers, web3 developers, and those who are curious about science! Join the monthly DeSci London meetup Thursday, March 26. Everyone is welcome 😊😊😊
Talk: Dr John Fletcher – Why Open Algorithmic Innovation Outcompetes Every Closed Lab on Earth – followed by QnA
Dr John Fletcher, a Cambridge physicist and co-founder of The Innovation Game, presents his thesis that the UK’s opportunity is to help shape the foundations of advanced AI — not by closing them, but by strengthening the open mathematical and algorithmic infrastructure on which the future of AI depends.
Britain’s comparative advantage is not simply attracting satellite offices of US hyperscalers, but utilising its mathematical tradition to keep the engines of discovery open and prevent algorithmic research from being monopolised.
The UK does not need to copy the closed model of frontier AI to matter.
The maths underneath AI is the most strategically important infrastructure on earth right now. AI systems can now discover and optimise algorithms autonomously(with tools such as AlphaEvolve), and the race for breakthroughs is about to accelerate beyond anything we’ve seen. Keeping it open is a matter of global security.
Governments that understand this will shape policy around it. Those that don’t will find themselves governed by it.
🌐 What: Science is broken and we think DeSci can fix it!
🗓️ When: Our meetups are always on the last Thursday of every month!
