————————————————————-

TOPIC: DEBT AND THE NATURE OF MONEY
————————————————————-
In the first instalment of our book club, we will be covering the nature of debt, credit and money. Our first book on the subject is Debt: The first 5000 Years (2nd Edition) by David Graeber.

David Graeber was an American anthropologist who specialized in theories of value and social theory.

Before Graeber, no one had written a history of debt. Given the role of debt in society, it is important to start here and observe one of the cornerstones of human relationships.

You can get a flavor of the book from his talk below. He is highly entertaining and his talks often have witty observations and punchlines that fly over the heads of its serious crowds. It almost as he is still in anthropologist mode assessing his target, the audience.
